The Santam safety survey

The Santam safety survey

When you look at the world from a child's perspective it will change how you approach everyday risks. Children are hard-wired from birth to learn by watching our actions. They learn far more from what we do than what we say.

We commissioned a leading researcher and a psychologist to investigate how South African children* understand safety and what they learn from the adults around them. Here is what we found.

Based on interviews with 1,000 7 - 12 year olds in South Africa. Respondents could choose from a list of common home and car safety rules. The survey was conducted in Metropolitan areas with households that had at least 1 vehicle.
